With my unified photo masters collection extracted on the DS218+, I do what I want in terms of backing up to other cloud providers, USB, etc.It's taken a bit of tinkering, but it's working well for me to accomplish my goal of having a "non-Apple-dependent backup" of all my photos in one unified library while still leveraging iCloud Photos and local DSLR photos for my day-to-day needs.Hazel is just a one-way copy. This workflow also supports photos coming in via DSLR or other cameras, which is necessary for me. I have no reason to carry around a 300gb library on my phone or iPad. When you snap a pic it’s still uploaded to iCloud in full res. Space management on iOS devices is handled by the “Optimize iPhone Storage” setting on the iOS app (iPhones and iPads). But sparse image trickery aside, there’s no way to do it and still leverage all the features of iCloud Photos & the Photos app integration between OSX and iOS. That’s also the main gotcha in this setup I require a Mac that has enough local disk space for original media.I’d prefer to store the master image library on the Synology itself and just use referenced masters.
